The Gua Sha
HOW TO USE
Begin by applying a few drops of The Nourishing Elixir or your chosen facial oil onto clean skin to facilitate a smooth glide for the Gua Sha during the treatment. Hold the Gua Sha flat against your skin, ensuring it makes full contact with the surface.
Apply light to medium pressure and gently stroke the tool in slow, delicate motions.
Repeat each stroke at least five times per area for maximum effectiveness.
To enhance facial treatments, utilise the curved edge of the tool, ideal for sculpting and contouring various areas of your face.
For body treatments, use the Gua Sha with a massage oil or allum’s Nourishing Elixir.
Apply light to medium pressure in downward strokes, focusing on areas like the thighs, glutes, and calves for deep tissue penetration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Your skin needs to be well-prepared for an effective Gua Sha massage. Begin with freshly cleaned skin, then add a few drops of The Nourishing Elixir or any facial oil you prefer. This ensures a smooth glide of the Gua Sha over your skin, avoiding unnecessary stretching or pulling that could potentially cause wrinkles or skin sagging.
Well-lubricated and moisturized skin is essential for an effective Gua Sha massage. We recommend using a high-quality, oil-based serum or a non-fast drying moisturizer. These prevent unwanted friction, maintain skin integrity and enhance the calming effects of the ritual. Avoid serums that dry quickly or combinations that become excessively tacky, as these can cause product pilling and disrupt the soothing nature of the routine.
Our Gua Sha and Nourishing Elixir pair wonderfully together to elevate your massage experience.
For facial Gua Sha, lighter pressure often provides more benefits. It is normal for your skin to exhibit slight redness due to increasedcirculation, but avoid applying pressure to the extent that it causes lasting marks or bruising. Temporary redness seen after Gua Shais usually due to increased blood flow, leading to an overall calming effect. In the eye area, always use feather-light strokes.
The body can tolerate more pressure, especially in areas with tight muscles or significant tension. However, if you notice mildbruising, it is an indication to ease the pressure in future treatments and to allow for a longer rest period before your next session. Deep tissue pressures are best handled by professionals, so maintain a gentle technique at home to prevent undesirable sideeffects.
Gua Sha is not intended for fat or cellulite removal. While it can alleviate muscle tension and promote drainage of stagnant fluids toreduce swelling and create a feeling of lightness in your body, it is not a tool aimed at reducing fat or cellulite. These are influencedby factors like hormones, genetics, and the structural arrangement of fat cells beneath the skin, which cannot be altered by GuaSha.
We generally advise against the use of Gua Sha for body massages during pregnancy. Professionals commonly recommendavoiding Gua Sha completely, particularly in areas close to the abdomen and the back.
To maintain hygiene, wash the tool with warm water and mild soap before and after each use, allowing it to dry completely beforestoring. If the tool was first used on your body, wash it again before using it on your face to prevent the spread of bacteria that couldcause skin inflammation and breakouts.
Exercise caution when using Gua Sha tools and avoid applying excessive pressure to prevent bruising or vessel tear. If you areconsidering a deep tissue massage, seek professional guidance to prevent potential harm.
Avoid using Gua Sha on active breakouts, broken skin, or burns. The scraping motion can aggravate tender skin and cause further inflammation. Using it on acne or breakouts could spread inflammation to other parts of the skin. The tool should be used on completely healed scars only.
Gua Sha is not generally recommended for children, the elderly, or those with very thin skin, as the scraping motion can potentially tear the skin. Such cases should be managed by professionals or best avoided completely.
We advise against using the tool on excessively swollen areas, and it is best to consult a professional before usage. Gua Sha can be effective for managing swelling due to fluid build-up, temporarily reducing puffiness in the face and body by stimulating the movement of stagnant lymph. However, if the cause of the severe swelling is unknown, it is crucial to seek a professional diagnosis and advise before incorporating Gua Sha into your self-care routine.
Exercise caution and seek professional guidance when addressing tender neck pain or injuries with Gua Sha.
Avoid Gua Sha or consult a professional if you are taking blood thinners, have a clotting disorder, or have had surgery in the past six weeks.
It is best to wait for a minimum of two weeks after receiving botox or filler injections before using Gua Sha to avoid complications.
Handle the tool with care as it may break if dropped. Wash it with warm water and mild soap, avoiding strong cleaning agents like alcohol that could damage the jade stone's surface. Ensure the tool dries completely before storing. Please note that our liability does not extend to any breakage or damage to the Gua Sha that occurs during personal use.
